Drug Rehab Facilities

Types of Drug Rehabs

Are you considering seeking help for drug addiction but not sure what your options are?  There are many types of drug rehabilitation clinics available to meet the diverse needs of those who suffer from a wide range of substance abuse problems.  Some of the most common types of drug rehab include inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, holistic rehab, gender specific rehab and dual diagnosis programs.

Inpatient Rehab

Drug rehabilitation clinics that provide around-the-clock medical care and support are known widely in the treatment world as inpatient rehab or residential rehabilitation programs.  These facilities offer patients the highest standard of treatment, monitoring and support throughout their stay providing a place to live while they receive adequate treatment and care for their addiction to drugs.  While inpatient drug rehabilitation clinics are not recommended for all addictions, they are the most trusted method of treatment for those who suffer from extremely physical substance abuse problems.

Outpatient Rehab

Unlike inpatient drug rehabilitation clinics, outpatient clinics do not provide housing, they do not provide around-the-clock support and they are not recommended for extremely physical addictions.  Those who have mild to moderate addictions that do not include serious side effects or withdrawal symptoms can find the help that is offered by these clinics to be beneficial without it being overly controlling.  Outpatient drug rehabilitation clinics are also an ideal next step for those who have already completed a residential treatment program.

Holistic Rehab

A relatively new wave in the addiction treatment industry is holistic rehab.  These clinics provide both inpatient and outpatient services to patients who suffer from a wide range of addictions or substance abuse problems.  Holistic drug rehabilitation clinics use a whole body and person approach to treating the recovering addict which focuses on helping to heal the mind, body and spirit rather than placing too much emphasis on the addiction and forgetting to focus on other elements of the individual’s health and well-being.

Gender Specific Rehab

Many drug rehabilitation clinics provide gender specific treatment such as treatment for men only or women only.  These programs realize that men and women respond differently to various approaches of treatment and that they tend to use drugs for very different reasons—therefore it is important to provide a gender specific approach to treatment that focuses on how men or women are most likely to respond effectively to addiction treatment.

Dual Diagnosis Programs

As many as 50% of all people who are addicted to drugs suffer from a dual diagnosis or co-occurring condition which is why dual diagnosis rehabilitation programs are so important in the treatment world.  These programs provide treatment for both addiction to drugs and other conditions such as mental illness, other substance abuse problems or medical problems.  Those who suffer from dual diagnosis benefit greatly from receiving treatment for both their addiction and any underlying problems and are more likely to stay sober long after treatment has ended.
